Alejandro Sebiani

Bio

Alejandro received his Bachelor’s degree in Biotechnology Engineering from the Costa Rica Institute of Technology. He then completed his Master’s in Plant Genetics and Molecular Biology at the University of Costa Rica, where he developed in planta transformation methods to facilitate the delivery of CRISPR/Cas9 components into rice.

Driven by his interest in plant genome editing, Alejandro joined VIB-Plant Systems Biology in 2024 to pursue his PhD. His current research focuses on developing molecular tools, including CRISPR genome editing, for Ulva research. Together with Jonas Blomme, his project aims to improve CRISPR genome editing efficiency in Ulva and to develop tools for studying carbon metabolism in seaweed.
